This is not sale day at Mervyns. This is prom dress rugby, UCLA style. The Bruin Rangers, our intrepid, official club version in this, the fastest-growing women's sport in the country, use their event to raise funds and to recruit new players. And it works: Last year the Rangers, with more than 50 members, finished second in their division. In choosing their gowns, the athletes have strict rules — the dresses must be cheap, contain no hard parts that will injure teammates and, most importantly, they must be ugly. From the photo shown here, they certainly succeeded.
