Reaction

"I was incredibly moved by the article featuring Lt. Mark Daily ['Saving Grace,' January 2008] and his noble reasons for fighting in Iraq . . . What a shame this country has lost someone of such high character."

Dress for Excess

This is not sale day at Mervyns. This is prom dress rugby, UCLA style. The Bruin Rangers, our intrepid, official club version in this, the fastest-growing women's sport in the country, use their event to raise funds and to recruit new players. And it works: Last year the Rangers, with more than 50 members, finished second in their division. In choosing their gowns, the athletes have strict rules — the dresses must be cheap, contain no hard parts that will injure teammates and, most importantly, they must be ugly. From the photo shown here, they certainly succeeded.
