More than 4,600 students admitted as freshmen for fall 2007 have sent in letters stating their intent to enroll at UCLA, including 873 from underrepresented groups — an increase of almost 3 percent from last year. The biggest percentage increase in minority statements of intent to register (SIRs) is from African-American students, whose number almost doubled from 103 in fall 2006 to 203 for fall 2007. African-American SIRs increased to 4.5 percent, up from 2.2 percent last year. UCLA admitted 11,924 students for the fall 2007 freshman class from among a record 50,744 applications received.
